Ditch those Plastic and Rubber Bushings

Unfortunately, engineers are designing expensive parts to fail by selecting weak and cheap support components. Is it intentional or ignorance? Either way it ends up costing us all hundreds or thousands of dollars in unnecessary repair work.

Here at FMB, we offer solutions to convert, replace, and upgrade your bushings to metal. Metal bushings could save you thousands of dollars in future parts and labor costs by restoring your existing equipment's function while preventing future occurrences.

The Problem with OEM parts

Replacing with an Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM) product will re-introduce the same problem with inferior bushings. Two or three years later you'll be in the same unsafe condition and out of warranty.

However, bushings made from aluminum, bronze, or steel will resist wear, repel rot and corrosion, and in many cases give a better feel/connection to your vehicle. Metal bushings are also safer since they are less likely to break down in your critical components!

What are Shifter Bushings?

A simple but common issue on vehicles equipped with a manual transmission is that it becomes loose feeling or floppy over time. It may not return to center (neutral) like it did when new. The shifter has a bushing on the end of it, where it connects to the actual transmission. Its purpose is to provide tight, smooth shifting.

When the bushing wears out or breaks, shifting becomes sloppy and loose, and sometimes gear numbers can be difficult to locate. Fortunately, the problem can be corrected with a new bushing and your car will be shifting like when it was new. However, many manufactures refuse to produce replacement bushing kits and require costly assembly replacements with hours of labor.

Since this is typically an issue that develops slowly over time, it often goes ignored or unnoticed as you continuously adapt to live with it.

However, eventually, the car becomes a burden to drive, and once the problem is corrected you remember just how good your car is capable of shifting; the feel of your shifter is a major aspect of your driving experience.
